Most mistakes MBA Interns Do Part 1

Summer time will always be the best time for many MBA interns to start getting their credits, as well as CPE for CPAs. This will run for two months and it will determine the individual’s fitness into such job that will lead him/her to the full time job offer.

“If a student completes the internship without (a) acquiring new skills, (b) developing a list of new contacts and professional relationships and mentors, it was time wasted” said Vicki Lynn, Senior VP for client talent strategy and employer branding at Universum U.S.A. She also added that “The internship is an opportunity to grow and develop professionally, add to skill sets, and acquire mentors and references—for the next opportunity.

Unlike any other career opportunities out there for MBA students, internships can also become a minefield – something that would either build or breakdown the character of the individual. With an aim to help other MBA students, here are some points to ponder when in an MBA internship, brought to you by BusinessWeek.com.

Partying too hard
-          With MBA’s could enjoy their internship, it could also lead them to too much partying or easiness at workplace, too much advances in terms of relationships toward co-workers or co-interns. This is normal but an MBA student should know how to keep himself/herself at a level of profession within the workplace.

Being too Passive for Feedbacks
-          MBA’s sometimes are too excited to jump on another project without even asking or not reacting on the reaction of people on his/he current works. Whenever you have such project, always ask whatever people or your boss thinks about it so you could have an idea or guide on how to do it better next time.

Are not keeping track of their own accomplishments
-          Some MBA just leave it after they have done it. That’s wrong. Experts and administrators says that MBA interns should always keep track of their individual achievements within their tenure so that when their managers or boss asks them, they could hand them out their accomplishments.

Lacking initiative to do work
-          Most MBA students fail to have initiative during their internships. To make it clear, they should ask further on how they will contribute to their work and with the company.

Ignoring Cultural Norms
-          MBA students should be aware of the different culture that surrounds a workplace, and a company. He/she should be able to consolidate himself/herself with it so that as well as there are different rules and policies that MBA students should be aware of within a certain company.
